Though I've had a few blog items recently from Inc. magazine (Sept. 2008), this topic is one worth visiting: CEOs of the 500 fastest growing companies offer up their biggest mistakes. Which goes to show you, you can succeed from your mistakes, as long as you learn from them Some of those whoppers (names withheld):
-
Not listening more.
-
Taking too long to fire someone. As soon as you know someone has stopped contributing, and you see that it is not going to improve, you need to fire that person immediately.
-
Not being ethical. I paid a very high price and will never make that mistake again. Unfortunately, i cannot reveal the details due to the out-of-court settlement.
-
Giving everyone the benefit of doubt. I am not near as trusting today as I was earlier in my career.
-
Not charging enough. When you give deals to clients, they assume you do cheap work. Charge every penny you can, and it will be valued more.
-
I am sure my biggest mistake is yet to come.
