To paraphrase an old Tina Turner song, today's work environment has adjusted to an aging Baby Boomer generation with open arms. Organization's need to retain the intellectual capital provided by older employees, and that same group wants to continue working for varied reasons such as continued health coverage, continued income flow, and the excitement from their work.
"Age is a state of mind," said Jack and Suzy Welch (BusinessWeek, June 2, 2008). "Vigor does matter. When it ebbs, so do presence of mind and availability. But with vigor, the playing field is level." They further state that age (young and old) must be accompanied by a willingness, even an eagerness, to change.
With this in mind, a great strategy for your organization is to team up your up and coming stars with your proven veterans. think of the mentoring synergy that could manifest itself!
