Many managers may not realize the hidden implications for every decision they make. Not only do their choices affect their customers, their company's profitability, and they themselves, those decisions also affect every employee within their department and the entire company. Moreover, each decision also has a ripple affect of impacting at least 4 people for every 1 working withing tour organization: the employee, their spouse or significant other, and an average of two dependents (children, parents, or an elderly relative). Add to this all of the vendors doing business with your company, and the number of people affected by each of your decisions increases almost exponentially. When I hear of large layoffs, or major corporate problems due to suspect decisions, I wonder how many of those decisions would have changed if this ripple effect was even considered.
